Household Movers

Hiring reputable household movers can be a confusing experience, especially if this is your first move. How does one find household movers that will not disappear with your money and your possessions, someone you can trust?
Moving industry experts advise that you educate yourself thoroughly before committing to any one household movers company. Ask friends and family for recommendations. Someone in your circle has to have hired household movers at some point. After you have obtained a few names, your next step should be to make a call to your local Better Business Bureau to ascertain whether anyone has filed a complaint against them. One complaint should not be a warning sign, especially if the problem was resolved amicably. Several complaints against one or all of them should set off alarm bells, though.
Next, do some checking with the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration to ascertain whether your household movers are registered and licensed for interstate moves or with the appropriate state authorities for registration and licensing information if, instead, you will be moving within the same state.
Obtain written estimates from several household movers companies. Do not accept oral estimates, either. You should ask for, and get, an itemized list of services that each household movers company will perform, with firm pick up and delivery dates for your goods, that has been signed by an authorized representative of each company. Speak up, ask questions, and never sign a contract that you do not understand or agree to pay your household movers with cash. For every honest and trustworthy group of household movers, there just as many, if not more, rogue groups of household movers who can't wait to take advantage of you.
Educate yourself on the dispute settlement procedures of the household movers companies that seem most promising to you. Damage claims must be made no later than nine months following a move, so don't procrastinate. You'll save yourself time and future aggravation if your keep your eyes wide open when you enter into a business relationship with a household movers company.
You should arrange to be at your current home on moving day to take an inventory of your things and note their condition before they are loaded into the truck. Do the same on delivery day. Carefully examine all your goods for damage as they come off the truck, and do not tender final payment until you are certain that everything has made the trip undamaged.
